Meniscal Injuries in Active Patients
نویسنده
چکیده
he menisci of the human knee are fibrocartilaginous, crescent-shaped structures that lie on the articular surface of the tibia (Figure 1). They are integral components of knee biomechanics. Injuries to the knee menisci are common, especially among athletes. Short-term sequelae of meniscal injury include knee pain and deficits in knee range of motion. Long-term sequelae may include degenerative changes in the knee joint with associated pain and stiffness. This article addresses the anatomy and function of the normal and injured meniscus, clinical diagnosis of meniscal tears, radiographic evaluation, and nonoperative as well as surgical treatment options.

Arthroscopic Meniscal Repair: “Modified Outside-In Technique”
Background: Despite the introduction of different techniques for meniscal repair, no single procedure is superior in all situations. The new method for meniscal repair named “ modified outside-in technique ” aims to achieve higher primary fixation strength by an alternative suture technique as well as avoid disadvantages of outside-in, inside-out, and all-inside suture procedures. Additionally...

CONTEXT Few population-based studies have examined the incidence of meniscal injuries, and limited information is available on the influence of patient's demographic and occupational factors. OBJECTIVE To examine the incidence of meniscal injuries and the influence of demographic and occupational factors among active-duty US service members between 1998 and 2006. DESIGN Cohort study. Background and Aim: Meniscal flounceis a rare, wavy shaped folding along the free edge of the meniscus that observed in .MRI images. This is a feature of transient distortion of a normal meniscus but it can be regarded as a pseudo- meniscal tear. The aimof the currentstudy was to evaluate the incidence of this normal variant. Materials and Methods: A total number of1001 knee MRI images. were pr...
متن کاملPosterior Lateral Meniscal Root Tears and Meniscal Repair
Meniscal repair indications have not really changed in recent years. Typically younger, more active patients with concomitant ACL reconstruction and peripheral third vertical tears continue to be the “best” repair candidates. However, even in these “ideal” candidates, meniscal repair continues to represent a significant challenge. While most will not dispute that vertical tears greater than 1 c...
متن کاملAccuracy of Lachman and Anterior Drawer Tests for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injuries
Background: The knee joint is prone to injury because of its complexity and weight-bearing function. Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures happen in young and physically active population and can result in instability, meniscal tears, and articular cartilage damage. The aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of Lachman and anterior drawer test in ACL injury in compare with arthrosc...
متن کاملConcomitant ligamentous and meniscal injuries in floating knee.
BACKGROUND To identify and characterize the concomitant ligamentous and meniscal injuries in floating knee. METHODS A total of 37 cases of floating knee were enrolled. Arthroscopic or open surgical examination of the knee, Lachman test, posterior drawer's test, and varus and valgus stress tests under anesthesia were carried out to determine the incidence of knee injury. RESULTS Through arth...
